Tex Tan Hereford Saddle
I'd hazard a guess that 1291 is Dec 1991. I have no old Tex Tan catalogs to look up models. See for some info. If yours looks like that color and lacks buckstitching or much toolong or silver it might be '90s.
Tex Tan Hereford Saddle For Sale
There are two Hereford Balanced Ride saddles on eBay. If yours has buckstitch on the skirts, then late '60s to early '70s. If its dark oil and extensively tooled, with silver and no white buckstitch on the skirts, then it's probably '70s through '80s vintage. If you can post a pic I can make a guess at the age. I got in touch with Tex Tan and the woman said 1291 is the month and year of production. She doesn't have any other info though as she can't find the serial/model number anywhere Here are a couple pictures.
